Occupy Miami: Generation of Change
Photography
Project
A series of photographs capturing a political movement.
Perhaps the first time Millennials united to discuss and organize solutions for the top issues pressing their generation, the Occupy movement galvanized those who participated to continue advocating for a better world.
As a student studying photography in downtown Miami, I spent two days embedded with the Occupy Miami movement, returning a few more times over the next few weeks until the encampment was disbanded for a lack of permitting.
Fond memories include: Conversing with other aspiring world changers, sharing free community meals provided by numerous donors, and waking up in a tent rapidly filling with six inches of water during a seasonal deluge.
Although the Occupy movement faced criticism for its lack of organization and focus, it may have facilitated an awakening of our generation’s impact on the future of our country and the world.
